The Corporation

1. How can we ensure corporations are held accountable for their actions “ethically” and “legally”?
There must exist both internal and external regulation. The company should reinforce a corporate culture and ethics programs that include a great sense of the consequences of certain actions. If a person, as an individual, is aware that the company is doing something wrong he or she must have enough determination to say so and push the change of it.
On the other hand there should be a strong legal system that applies sanctions.
the people who is outside the corporation also has the power to inform the general public against the actions that harm the community. The power of public opinion is much greater than you would think

2. Should individuals (directors, employees, shareholders) bear any responsibility for the actions of a corporation? If so, to what degree?
A corporation is a legal person, but it is still run by individuals. so if the corporation is harming a community the responsables are the ones who took the decision.

3. What are the benefits of the corporate form? Could an alternative model offer these as well?
the main benfit is that the figure of a corporation works as it is a person, so, its actions and decisions are not linked with a real face. Corporations can act on behalf of its own interest . Corporations are made of a lot of people, that gives it diversity t accomplish ts objectives.  There's a lot of corporate forms which varies according to the responsability of the owners.

4. Search for a foreign multinational corporation that has operations in Colombia. Research if they are run under Colombian rules or regulations or if they have special regulations?

"Chevron plays an integral role in meeting Colombia's energy needs, producing enough natural gas to supply approximately 65 percent of the nation's demand."

"They own and operate a nationwide network of Texaco service stations."

As an active member of the community, "Chevron also supports education, health, sustainable business development and environmental enhancement projects in Colombia."

They are under the Colombian law, they has to meet the environmentas standards and also they have to meet security meassures of their service stations. The colombian government has the power to manipulate the fuel price as well.

5. Should economic efficiency (Main argument for privatization) be the primary concern for commons and public services? Are there other criteria to determine who should own or operate them?

Everyone should have access to public services, no matter if they are private or not. you can't put at risk the wellfare of the community because of economic interest. I think is right that only one company manages public services because of the cost of the infrasturcure. There's not a specific criteria to decide, buy whoever gets control over public services must be highly regulated by law in order that the population get the service they deserva at a reasonable price.

We associate personality with the particular traits or characteristics of a certain person.

“Personality is a dynamic organisation, inside the person, of psychophysical systems that create the person’s characteristic patterns of behaviour, thoughts and feelings”.
G.W. Allport, 1961

According to that, personality would have a great impact on the individual performance of an employee.

For a company certain types of personality are more desirable than others, but the challenge for managers is to correctly guide its  employees in spite their personality.

http://christophersmark.files.wordpress.com/2008/07/goodbadgemleo.jpg

on the other hand Perception According to the Oxford Dictionary, refers to “the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses”, and also as “the neurophysiological processes, including memory, by which an organism becomes aware of and interprets external stimuli”... Then, perception si influenced  by both internal and external factors.

In a lot of occasions, perception is not always aligned with reality, is easy to jump to the wrong conclusion if we don’t look a little bit further. The following video shows exactly what I mean….

Why is important for managers and employees to be able to understand different types of personalities?

A manager must know his or her employess in order to understand their behavior. Some people are more complex than others. A person is not only what you can see but what is underneath.

a lot of conflicts in the workplace are related with clashes of personality. A manager must have the habilit to distinguish when the problem is real and when is just becasue some employee has a bad temper o something alike.

for example, when some people talk they might seem not quite intelligent because he or she doesn't say much, but in reality that person might be just shy.

National and organizational Behavior

We all have a link with the place we were born and raised, and knowing that culture influences individually we can assume that culture also has an influence in corporate decisions communication even in the hierarchical structure. In Word of Richard Mead “culture characterizes the national Group and influences the behavior of its individual members”.

In a Corporation all culture-based decisions must be taken as all the individuals share a group identity, this generalization must be based on a detail observation to guarantee success.

Corporate culture creates a sense of identity among the employees, which can give a pattern of behavior in certain situations.

If a business is stablished acroos cultures is very important that manaegrs understand that it is impossible to make everyone fit to a given cultural norms. this is why manager must develops cross cultural management skill and international management.

Organizations can transmit their corporate culture, and with time and patience employees will learn it without even noticing it... but, is corporate culture a way to manipulate employees?

In my opinion, no organization can hope to deliberately control it's employee's behavior. it can sure influence it but if employees notice that they are being manipulated in any way there can be nasty effects on the company's performance. in the
long term, if an employee is not aligned with the company's culture he or she will eventually leave the company.

My Favorite Blogs.

http://www.circleofblue.org/waternews/

This blog is interesting for me because it discuses the climate problems focusing in the water crisis. it provides news, statistics and simple solutions to reduce water consumption. and the most interesting think abouti is that relevant people from the corporate sector also have entries. The most interesting post for me was the one called "Choke Point: China—Confronting Water Scarcity and Energy Demand in the World’s Largest Country"

This blog by Alberto Montt made me laugh quite a lot. I think this blog is interesting because the author has a sharp sense of humor that maybe most of the people wouldn't like. In his drawings it shows how all the clichés can be destroyed if you look a little bit further. It also has political humor and takes in to account recent social events in an

I thought this blog made by Leo Babauta is interesting because it show simple steps to make your life easier. Sometimes life gets just to many fast and if we don't make a pause. Through the post of the author you start to question about what are the real important things in you life and if you are really giving it the importance you should. I also think is interesting because it is aligned with the new age tendencies, although I’m not all that passionate about it I think is important to know at least a little bit.
